Why I wanted to bleach my skin – Actress Linda Osifo

 Published on September 29, 2023

Nollywood actress, Linda Osifo, has revealed that she contemplated bleaching her skin while in Canada because of racial slurs.

The ebony thespian who was born in Benin City, Nigeria, before moving to Canada at 16, said the racism she suffered was traumatising for her because it came from “within”.

She disclosed this in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

The host, Chude, asked: “You talked about wanting to bleach your skin because when you grow up people would call me a monkey (sic). [Did] this literally happen?”

Osifo replied: “Yeah. It happens absolutely. And it happens from your shade too, you know. So, that’s why it’s even more of a weird thing.

“I always feel that those who get bullied, don’t get bullied by outsiders. It’s from within. Because if somebody else says it, you may not care but if somebody who is around you, who you are always kinda seeing every other day says it, it hurts more.

“This was when I was a teenager in Canada. The positive aspect of moving [back] to Nigeria, was seeing more of individuals who look just like me.”

She added that relocating to Nigeria made her appreciate herself more

Mohbad may have surrounded himself with cultists – Naira Marley alleges

 Published on September 29,2023

Rapper, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has said his former signee, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, may have surrounded himself with “a lot of cultists” given the sudden nature of his death.

He said he believed that the late singer had been bullied but his bullies weren’t sponsored by him or his record label, Marlian Music.

Speaking in an interview with Reno Omokri, Naira Marley said he is not a cultist, stressing that he has been battling with cultists since relocating to Nigeria from England in 2019.

While alleging that those accusing him of having a hand in Mohbad’s death may be trying to cover up the true cause of his death, the Marlian Music boss said he hopes the police conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

He said, “I believe he was actually stressed as much as he needed help. I believe he has been bullied. I believe there were people on his neck, people all over him that he was in danger. But it wasn’t from us. If he was in danger from me, if anybody is scared of me, nobody is gonna come out doing all of these. I don’t believe in any cult whatsoever. I came to Nigeria in 2019 from England. I don’t know what a cult is. I’ve been running away from the cultists in Nigeria. I’m actually an anti-cultist. I’m against it. So many times they tried to force me into it but thank God they never succeeded in doing it.

“I do understand that maybe he [Mohbad] had surrounded himself with a lot of bad people like a lot of cultists. And I can see from the way people are trying to cover up, with the way they sending in money [to Mohbad’s family] and with the experience of what has happened around them, I just hope the police will find out a lot of things, man.

Nigerian men explain why they fancy women's braided wigs

A cross section of men residing in New Nyanya and Mararaba Area of Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have expressed admiration for trending braided or weave on wigs worn by women.

In their interactions with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, the men described the trend as a welcome development, stressing that it had relieved women from unnecessary stress.

According to them, the trend has helped women to be stress free, as well as helping them to spend hours under a stylist all in the name of making hair.

Bitrus Becan, a civil servant, said that he found it so attractive, especially when it was worn by young ladies.

”The stress of spending hours in the name of plaiting hair have reduced; women do not have to sit for hours under the stylist plaiting their hairs.

”I prefer the braided or weave on wigs to that of plaiting hair, because women can easily wear and remove them at ease, especially in this rainy season.

”Due to my love for braided wig, I bought the two my fiancĂ©e is using now and I intend to buy more for her,” he said.

Similarly, Ezekiel Njoku, a businessman in New Nyanya, said that the trendy braided wig made ladies to look real good and neat, compared to the plaiting braid.

Njoku said the manner with which some of these ladies carried plaited hair for weeks without washing or making other hairstyle, made them to look ridiculous than beautiful.

“Some women find it very difficult to lose their plaited hair even where they know that the hair is long overdue and needs a new touch.

“Instead of them to lose the hair, they will keep it until they start perceiving unpleasant odour that can lead to infection.

"The braided or weave on wigs have made things easier for our women to take proper care of their hair, in the sense that they can remove and decide to wear another.

”Many women have two, three or more of the braided or weave on wigs my wife inclusive, they may decide to wear one today and water another tomorrow, such is a great development,” he said.

Tony Bernard, a banker, said that braided wigs were not too expensive, adding that it was also easy to maintain, especially if one was a working class lady.

“I prefer the artificial braided wigs for my wife because it is stress free and also give her a different look each time she decides to wear it.

“It saves her a lot of time and pains while plaiting her hairs and she will not go to the salon to plait her hair often.

“Braided wig has made it so easy for her, she can wear it anytime and anywhere she feels like,” Bernard said.

Kelvin Joesef, a male hairstylist, said that the fashion trend had become popular among women of different classes, ages among others.

“The different between the braided wig and the plaited hair cannot be over- emphasised, because women are now free from stress with help of the braided or waveon wigs.

“This trend has been embraced by most women to the extent that you rarely find ladies who do not put on braided wig; it is trending among the women folks.

“It has really made some women to look glamorous and more attractive,” he said.

Meanwhile, Antony Onyibe, dealer of the wigs, Nyanya Main Market, said the selling of the wigs was a lucrative business because of the demand as well as the patronage.

Onyibe added that prices of braided wigs differed because it depended on the quality. Some vary between ₦‎150,000 to ₦‎200,000 even more than that. While you could get some from ₦‎5,000 to ₦‎50,000 even lesser,
